Artist Statement:
My name is Chrissy Liu and I took my first metalsmithing class at Dana’s studio two years ago. I have since launched a business based in Colorado. I make every piece by hand in my home studio and love the creative process.
This ring was inspired by the current global pandemic. The Kingsman Turquoise stone reminded me of a map of the earth with the bright blue representing the water and the darker brown the land. I prefer bold rings so I set this stone on a circular piece of fine silver that has been textured and bonded with 24K Gold Foil using the Keum Boo process. The abstract gold pattern is surrounding the earth and represents the chaos this virus is causing around the world. The wide band is sterling silver and is slightly tapered for a more comfortable fit. The entire piece has been textured and oxidized to highlight the contrasts of the texture and the gold.
