Experienced goldsmith, Jim Dailing will walk students through the realities of the gem industry. This course will cover what to look for when buying gemstones, how best to source stones domestically and internationally, and good practices for establishing relationships with dealers. Last but not least, students will leave understanding how to avoid getting taken advantage of and overpaying for high end gems! This course is also designed to help students develop an eye for determining how a stone will need to be set. Some time will be spent on the historical evolution of the cutting and faceting of gems and the various cuts used today. All levels.
