“Mauricio Babilonia was always in the audience at the concerts, at the movies, at high mass, and she did not have to see him to know that he was there, because the butterflies were always there.” – Gabriel García Márquez
My ring was inspired by the image depicted in Márquez’s novel “One Hundred Years of Solitude”. As I reflect on life during and post-pandemic, the novel gives me a sense of resilience and reassures me of the power of artistic expression.
The yellow butterflies in the One Hundred Years provide a backdrop to a love story with a tragic end. Alternatively, the butterflies on my ring symbolize enduring guidance and hope for a renewed world, one filled with more awareness and compassion.
