Artist Statement:
A flash of blue, a flare of green, a shimmer of gold. In these grey quarantine days light has been a vector of hope and life for me. I found myself gazing at this opal while exploring the Tucson Gem Show this year. It was the one stone I carried on my chest all the way home. The day I bought it I had no idea the bite this pandemic was about to take out of society. Accomplishing each task involved in making this ring reminded me how important hope and progress are. When I would see the opal in each phase of the creation process I was briefly transported somewhere else. Somewhere brighter. Now that the ring is complete, I see the stone is right where it is supposed to be.
